2010 MLB Draft Recap

Bryce Harper went number one overall and became the highest drafted JUCO player ever, unseating former big league pitcher Alex Fernandez who went fourth overall to the White Sox in 1990. Harper’s story is way more legendary than Fernandez’s though because he isn’t really a JUCO player, he’s a 17 year old high school junior that got his GED and went to junior college just so he could turn pro a year early.
But Harper isn’t alone at the top, the two picks after him were also HS kids. The Pirates took Jameson Taillon, a pitcher from Texas that can throw 90+ mph second and the Orioles got Manny Machado from Florida third. The Royals then selected the first college player by drafting Christian Colon a SS from CS Fullerton forth.
