Big East Turns Down $1 Billion From ESPN

Everyone knows the Big East sucks, but yet here they are turning down a $1 billion TV rights deal from ESPN… presumably so they can get even more on the open market. Which is amazing because I didn’t even know that anybody watches Big East football, so them turning down $1 billion from ESPN is like a bum refusing to take a dollar.

Granted the Big East is a BCS conference (the worst one), are supposedly in the country’s largest TV market, reaching an estimated 30 million households, and they just did add TCU to their roster… but still they suck so hard in football that there’s really no reason to tune in after basketball seasons over. But NYC is NYC… and I guess Fox and/or Comcast is willing to pay top dollar for the TV rights come 2013, when their current deals expire.

But if you ask me, if they pay anything over $100, they’ll be getting screwed. [via]
