Breakdown: How VCU Is Winning

I’m sure if you’re like me you’re wondering how and the hell VCU went from the First Four to the Final Four. How this mid major who lost 11 games and finished fourth in the their conference standings has managed to beat the best from the Pac 10, Big East, Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12 to become just the third team in history seeded 11th or lower to make the Final Four (LSU in 1986 and George Mason in 2006 were both 11s).

Well we’re here to break it down for you and tell you why VCU’s luck is bound to run out.

The reason that VCU is winning is because ever since the tournament started they’ve somehow managed to become the best three point shooting team in the tournament, raising their three point percentage by 10% from their regular season average of 34% to 44% in the tournament. It’s like everyone has turned into some Steve Kerr’s overnight…they went from making 7 threes a game to over 10.

When VCU hit 12 3s in its second-round win against Georgetown, it was a season high for VCU. And they followed up that impressive three point barrage by hitting hit 12 more against Florida State and another 12 against Kansas.

These kids are shooting the hell out of the ball from three way better than they ever have or should be, which leads me to believe that eventually VCU’s luck is going to run before they make it to the championship because nobody stays this hot forever. But then again a long as they keep hitting 1 out of every 2 three’s they shoot, there is no stopping VCU.
