Softball: Pac-10 Play Begins

Series of the Weekend: With the Pac10 starting play this past weekend you would think that our series of the weekend would come from there, but instead we’re going to travel down to the SEC to recap the #12 Florida Gators vs #13 LSU Tigers series.

LSU was coming in hot on a 24 game winning streak and unbeaten in SEC play, but Florida cooled them off sweeping them in the 3 game series 4-1, 2-1, and 7-1 thanks to some nice pitching by freshman Ensley Gammel and some clutch hitting by Aja Paculba who extended her hit streak to 11 games with 4 over the weekend.

Most Surprising Series: #4 ranked Missouri Tigers got swept in a two game series over the weekend by the 15th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys 8-3 and 1-0.

Pac10: #1 Washington vs #5 UCLA – surprisingly the Bruins took the first game of the series 1-0 from the Huskies even though they were playing without 3 starters and facing last years National Player of the Year Danielle Lawrie, who was lost her first game of the season. But that game proved to a fluke because the Huskies took the next 2 games 3-1 and 7-2. #2 Arizona vs #11 Arizona State - In a rivalry series Arizona won the series 2-1 over the Sun Devils in a series that saw plenty of runs scored. The first game was won by Arizona 12-6, the second by Arizona State 11-1, and the third by the Wildcats 14-2.

With all the action and upsets we should see a shake u in the rankings, which should come out mid week. We’ll have more on softball once they are released.
