College baseball’s “Heisman Award”, given out t the best player in the game is called the Golden Spikes Award… and this year it was UCLA pitcher Trevor Bauer who took home the gold. Bauer who went number three in this years draft to the Arizona Diamondbacks finished the year 13-2 with 1.25 ERA and a nations best 203 strikeouts. Congrats bro. [via]

It has been all in the news that former Miss Texas Brooke Daniels left Dallas Cowboy WR Roy Williams after he proposed to her and kept the $80,000 ring he bought her. But leave it up to our dudes over at Busted Coverage to discover that Brooke is now dating University of Houston baseball player David Murphy.
Talk about a downgrade for her… Williams is a former first round NFL Draft pick, Murphy on the other hand only batted .241 in only 29 at-bats this year on a horrible U of H squad.

South Carolina might not have got the football national championship that they wanted, but hey yesterday they did win the baseball championship. But no lie… we weren’t even going to post anything about it, but we had to acknowledge this kid Scott Wingo for breaking out the championship belt in the post celebration festivities. Legendary! Here’s goes something that you don’t see everyday… Florida catcher Mike Zunino breaking his bat in two on a fouled off pitch. But here goes a headline for you worthy of acknowledgement… South Carolina pitcher Michael Roth quit his job as a car salesman so he could stay at the College World Series and watch his son pitch. Now that’s love!

There’s only one more NCAA Championship trophy that still needs to be handed out before we conclude the 2010-11 college sports season… baseball’s. Day 1 and 2 of the College World Series is already in the books with South Carolina (last years national champion) providing the fireworks for the day with this sweet walk off HR in the 9th to hand Texas A&M loss number one.

A few days after this happened we brought you news that UGA junior outfielder Johnathan Taylor had broke his neck after running into one of teammates while diving for a line drive in a game against FSU. Well ESPN has done a little special updating everyone on Taylor’s condition and its not looking good.
As it turns out Taylor injured the C-5 and C-6 vertebrae in his neck and is paralyzed from the waist and he has no feeling in his fingers. The good news is because his spinal cord wasn’t severed in the injury, doctors said there’s reason to believe Taylor’s condition might improve and is showing signs of improvement.
