I’ve never heard of Hillbilly Handfinshin’, but apparently it’s a new redneck show that comes on the Animal Planet. And we’re telling you about it because on a recent episode North Dakota’s basketball player Mike Mathison appeared on it and was able to bare hand a 40-pounder in the swaps.

The NBA Draft is my favorite of all the sports… it’s just long enough were you can watch the whole thing and know all the players drafted. But still there are rumors that this lockout could end up changing it, in an effort to make the league more competitive… a change that might make college’s best players thing twice about jumping to the NBA in the future.

It’s been a tough first 18 months on the job for Wake Forest head basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik… so far four plater have left the program for a variety of reasons. Tony Woods was kicked off the team last April for beating his girlfriend, then Ari Stewart decided to transfer to USC, then Melvin Tabb was booted after being arrested on breaking and entering and fraud charges, and then Ty Walker will be suspended until December 10th for violating the schools student code of conduct.
And now today comes word that JT Terrell, the team’s second-leading scorer as a freshman last season, is resigning from the basketball team after being arrested for driving while impaired… after police found him passed out behind the wheel of his car with the engine running early Saturday morning. Don’t look now, but it’s looking like the Deamon Deacons have another losing season coming up. [via]

We’ve got a bit of sad news coming out of the holiday weekend…. Florida A&M University women’s basketball player Shannon Washington died earlier this morning after she was stabbed in the neck and killed during an argument at her apartment with her girlfriend Starquineshia Palmer (who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder).
Washington was an All-American player at Illinois Valley Community College before transferring to Florida A&M where she was expected to play shooting guard in the fall. RIP. [via]

Police Report: Rice and Alexander were arrested on Wednesday evening and charged with fifth-degree theft (which is a simple misdemeanor, classified as theft of less than $200) for stealing something from Scheels Sporting Goods store.

John Calipari not only is one of the coolest coaches in college basketball… the man has his own special edition Mustang and bottle of Maker’s Mark, but the coolest honor all could have been by the owners of Lexington-based Kelley Farms, who’ve some managed to carve Calipari’s face into a 10-acre cornfield.

Bruce Pearl is done. Less than a week after the NCAA basically banned the dude from coaching college basketball until 2015, he’s hung up his coaching jacket to sell groceries. That’s right… statement released by Pearl today, he announced that he would be staying in Knoxville and joining HT Hackney as vice president of marketing. WTF!
But don’t act too surprised because this job is probably going to pay Pearl more than the $500,000 a year that he was offered to coach the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks‘ D-League franchise… Forbes magazine ranks HT Hackney as the 82nd largest privately held company in the country with annual revenues of about $4 billion.
