So Oregon head coach Chip Kelly took the stand today at Pac 12 Media Day, but sadly he didn’t answer any questions about the NCAA’s investigation into the programs connection to Will Lyles. In fact before anyone could even ask a question Kelly opened with this statement: ”I’d love to answer all the questions and we will at the appropriate time. When the outside law firm findings are made public I’d like to answer all the questions. There are a lot of misconceptions.”

And the only other comment he made on the matter was: ”I can’t speak to what any other school has done. I know [Lyles] deals with 80-some schools… I would love to talk about it. Once the report comes out, I’ll deal with any questions anybody has about the situation.” So no new news to report here folks. Sorry.

The SEC Media Day is over and done. The ACC Media Day is going on right now, but who cares… the next one we’re gearing up for the very first Pac 12 Media Day, which starts tomorrow. And all eyes will be on Oregon and not because they are a national champion favorite, but because this will be the first time the media will have a shot at questioning head coach Chip Kelly since the Will Lyles story broke.

And as if trying to curb the onslaught of questions Kelly is sure to receive Oregon Rob Mullens has sent out an email trying to quell football supporters concerns.

We have yet another wrinkle in the Oregon Will Lyles saga to report… a little detail that could be the reason that head coach Chip Kelly fired.

It’s pretty clear based on the facts that have come out that Oregon will be facing some sort of sanctions from the NCAA for their involvement with Lyles and probably major ones… but alone they’re not enough to cost Kelly his job.

However if it is proven that Kelly knew he was giving Lyles $25,000 to steer players there, then just as Jim Tressel was given the boot for knowingly committing a violation and trying to cover it up, I don’t care how good of a coach he is his ass will be grass.

And based on the conversations Kelly had with a reporter before and after teh story broke… that’s exactly what sounds like happened.

YahooSports.com kicks ESPN’s ass at just about every aspect of sports reporting… and when it comes to college sports reporting, they are second to none. They were all over the USC case. All over the Ohio State mess. And now they’ve got Oregon Ducks in their cross hairs and firing away with what seems like an AK-47 with a double clip… there’s no way that they’re going to survive this.

Now YahooSports has hit the jackpot… an interview with Mr. Will Lyles himself. And they just didn’t land one interview with him, they conducted a “wide-ranging, multi-day interview” with the man that will be soon be known as the one who brought down the Ducks.

What Lyles said below…

Oregon might have dumbest coaching staff in America. How else can you explain how they shelled out $25,000 to Will Lyles’ Complete Scouting Services for the 2011 “National Package” without it containing information on any 2011 recruits. That’s right… in the documents released released it showed that they gave 25G’s for the “2010 National High School Evaluation Booklet” which highlighted 140 recruits, almost all of whom graduated in 2009.

Looks like it is true what everyone expects… Oregon’s coaching staff paid Lyles to help steer five-star Texas running back Lache Seastrunk and possibly LaMichael James, both of whom are close with Lyles.

So I guess this was the big news that ESPN’s Colin Cowherd hinted at on his radion show on Wednesday, “Sources: Man who helps Ducks probe“. And they’ve got a big long story wrote up, but for all their huffing and puffing there’s no evidence to any wrong doing by Oregon or any of the six teams they mentioned in their report.

Really I should even be comparing Chip Kelly to such a legend like Chris Farley…quite frankly it’s an insult, but you’ve got to admit Farley does look like he could be Chip’s older brother. I give Chip two more years before his second chin starts to fill out and fans start chanting, “fat coach in a little coat”.
