Mens Lacrosse: Final Four All Set

Duke and Norte Dame advanced on Saturday and now Virginia and Cornell will be joining them after taking care of business yesterday. Cornell easily handled Army 14-5, ending their Cinderella story that started with an upset of number two seeded Syracuse. Big Red jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and never looked back from there, going on a six goal run after the half to put the game away. They’ll meet Notre Dame on Saturday.

Virginia vs Stony Brook Recap Below…

Cornell’s Basketball Team Is Fruity

All I have to say is luckily they’re all seniors (Ryan Wittman, Louis Dale, Jeff Foote)

Recent Basketball Coaching Hires

Rutgers: It took forever to fire coach Fred Hill, but once they did they wasted no time hiring a new one…Mike Rice of Robert Morris. A hire that should get 2 thumbs up from everybody, he’s a good mid-major coach that’s been to the tourney the last 3 years.

Now Rice didn’t win any games in the tourney, but he should be good enough to take Rutgers from a Big East bottom feeder, that was 5-13 in league last year, to a team that’s close to .500. To expect anything more than that from him would be ludicrous.

It’s Crowded At The Top Of The Ivy League

The Ivy League has been around for over 100 years and yesterday it experienced a first. For the first time ever in Ivy League lacrosse history, four teams will share the regular season title. The teams sharing the championship: Brown, Cornell, Princeton and Yale.

In the final day of league play Princeton lost to Cornell 10-9, Brown won 10-9 in OT over Dartmouth, and Yale got a 9-8 win over Harvard…leaving them all with 4-2 league records.

Now in the first Ivy League Playoff, being held next weekend, Brown will face Cornell in one semifinal game, while Princeton and Yale will play the other semifinal.

Men’s Lacrosee Buzzer Beater

I have never seen this…a buzzer beater in lacrosee. Last night #2 Syracuse was taking on #10 Cornell in a rematch of last years championship game when in the final second Terrapin senior Chris Daniello scored the game winner after coming up with the ball during a scrum in front of the goal. Syracuse now improves to 9-1 on the season with their only loss coming to #1 Virginia earlier on in the season.

NCAA Basketball Coaching Changes

Oliver Purnell (From Clemson to DePaul) – This one was a shocker. Purnell looked like he was happy at Clemson…they had made the tournament 3 straight years, he had a winning record of 138-88, and he had a couple years left on his $1 million plus a year salary. And he up leaves in the middle of the night, calling the Clemson AD at 1:30 am the day of to let him know that he’s going to DePaul, a team that straight up sucks.

A team that has only won 1 Big East conference game in 2 years. I guess that’s what happens when someone offers you a $1 million+ pay bump (Purnell signed a 7 years and $15 million contract with DePaul). Still he could have at least said goodbye to his players.

Instant Classic: Michigan State vs Maryland

(5) Michigan State 85 – (4) Maryland 83: If you didn’t watch this one you missed out on an Instant Classic. Down 7 with under 2 minutes to go Greivis Vasquez not only leads Maryland all the back they take the lead with under 7 seconds to go. And then well I’m sure you’ve heard and seen what happens to Maryland next…buzzer beater.

(12) Cornell 87 – (4) Wisconsin 69: There’s like 2 all white teams still in the tournament, Northern Iowa and Cornell (Cornell is the better of the 2). Still Wisconsin should have won this one and they would have had it not been for this kid Tim Jarmusz, who only contributed 1 foul in 17 minutes in the loss. On a team full of losers, he’s the biggest one.
