Men’s Lacrosse Preview: ACC Tournament

First we looked at the women’s ACC lacrosse tournament and now it’s time to look at the men’s. And just like in the women’s tournament we will see 4 of the 5 top teams in the nation squaring off starting with tomorrows semifinals double-header.

Virginia and UNC, the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the nation respectively, both finished 2-1 in league and will share the ACC regular season crown…will meet the #4 and #5 teams in the nation Maryland and Duke.

ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Preview

The 2010 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship starts tomorrow where 4 of the top 5 teams in the country will be battling it out to see who will be crowned the ACC’s best. #1 UNC, #3 Maryland and #4 Virginia each finished the ACC regular season at 4-1, but due to the tie-breaker rules UNC and Maryland were given the top 2 seeds in the tournament and first round buys. (Bonus: The 2010 All ACC Lacrosse Team)

So tomorrow Duke will play Boston College and Virginia will take on Virginia Tech, with the winners of each game advancing to the semifinal round to face UNC and Maryland, respectively on Saturday…and that’s when well be updating you on what happened.

Women’s Gymnastics Championship Preview: UCLA’s To Lose

We’ve been showing the hottest girls in college gymnastics and now it’s time to give you a preview of the last championship of the winter sports season, women’s gymnastics. And with the defending champion UGA getting knocked off in the regionals, this year a new queen of gymnastics will be crowned and it’s looking like it’ll be the Bruins.

UCLA is the favorite to replace the GymDogs at the top by securing the #1 seed in the finals with a regional score of 197.825, tops in the nation. But not only does UCLA have the strongest team they also have the best All-Around Gymnast in the country in sophomore Vanessa Zamarripa. But the Bruins will face tough competition…

Men’s Lacrosse: ACC Owns Everybody

Just like in the women’s lacrosse rankings, the ACC controls 4 of the top 5 spots in the mens poll. A wild weekend saw Virginia take its first loss of the year, which moves Syracuse to #1 the lone non-ACC school and drops the Cavs to #2. Rounding out the top 5 is then North Carolina, Maryland and Duke. But forget the ranking, the focus for all them is winning the ACC tournament which is coming up this weekend.

WWJD: When Jesus Gets In The Way Of Winning A National Championship

Nobody like women’s rugby. It isn’t even a real NCAA sport, but that wasn’t the reason neither fans nor players were at the Women’s Rugby College National Championship game last night. It was because the game fell on a Sunday and the favorite to win it BYU, who has a team full of Mormons, don’t believe in doing any work on Sunday.

So after spending $10,000 of their own money to get all the way down to the Final Four which was held in Florida and easily beating Wisconsin-Milwaukee by a score of 46-7 in the semi-finals, BYU had to forfeit the championship game. That sucks…for them.

UNC Ends Northwestern’s 2 Year Win Streak

Northerwestern had gone 1 year 11 months and 21 days without a loss. Won 41 games in a row. Had 59 straight victories at home. And it all ended today when the #2 ranked UNC Tarheel’s beat the Wildcats 18-16 in a rematch of last years national title game. The game ball goes to the UNC’s Laura Zimmerman who had a career high 5 goals and 2 assist.

#1 Virginia Goes Down To The Dukies

We should have known that Virginia was going to lose this…coming into the game Duke had beaten Virginia 7 straight times and 2 straight times when the Cavaliers had been ranked #1. Now those numbers are 8 straight and 3 straight respectively because the #6 ranked Blue Devils once again got the W, winning the game 13-9.
