Patrick Peterson’s Got Some Explaining To Do

I thought Dez Bryant was going to be the runaway winner of the Idiot of the Week Award for getting sued for over $850,000 in unpaid bills in less than one week, but in swoops LSU’s Patrick Peterson to take the title from him. On Wednesday news surfaced that street agent Willie Lyles told an Texas A&M assistant that they’d have to cough up $80,000 if they wanted Peterson because that’s what other schools were offering.

The very next day Peterson then issued a statement through LSU saying that he “never had any type of relationship with Willie Lyles and… he had no involvement with [his] recruiting process”. And not only that, on Thursday Peterson told ESPN that he’d never even took a recruiting trip to A&M. Well as it turns out Peterson was lying through his teeth.

In article posted on Rivals.com‘s Texas A&M website back in August of 2007, Peterson told the author “I visited Texas A&M the other day. Everything there was great. The facilities were the best I had seen of anywhere that I’ve been this summer…”.

But wait there’s more. The story begins with Peterson saying, “dad and I were in Houston visiting one of his friends and he suggested that we go look at A&M.” And the “friend” according to the author of the article…none other than one Willie Lyles. Boom goes the dynamite.

$80,000 For Patrick Peterson’s Services

Apparently Willie Lyles, that “trainer” form Texas who is under NCAA investigation for receiving $25,000 from Oregon, told Texas A&M it had to beat $80,000 if it wanted to sign star recruit Patrick Peterson back in 2007 because that’s what other schools were offering…so says Van Malone a former cornerbacks coach at Texas A&M.

Yeah it’s the Cam Newton thing all over again. You’ve got Peterson’s dad already claiming he knew nothing of Lyles request for a payment. While the rest of are left wondering who the other schools were that offered Lyles $80k for Peterson’s services, if one of these schools was LSU, and did they pay it. Nothing like a good scandal to start of the Spring!

LSU NCAA Violations Investigation Underway

Yesterday there were rumors were swirling around Will Lyles, the street agent/recruiter who is at the center of the Oregon NCAA investigation, once again and this time it had nothing to do with his shaddy dealing with the Ducks…this time the reports were about Lyles and his ties to 2011 LSU recruit Trevon Randle.

Over the weekend we learned that the NCAA had interviewed the recruit and his father on two separate occasions about Lyles on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. And that in an interview with FoxSports Randle admitted that Lyles was “pretty tight” with his family.

Now come today LSU is trying to put out the flames by “confirming” that they paid $6,000 to Complete Scouting Services, a college recruiting firm that employs Lyles. But my question is what about the other $20,000 that was reportedly paid to Lyles and his various scouting service companies…payments that the LSU Athletic Department Budgets and associate athletic director Herb Vincent already admitted to?
