Maya Moore Plays With Obama

When Obama wants to play some basketball game he just doesn’t have pick-up game, he has a PICK-UP GAME! Take yesterday for example…he invited over LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo, Bill Russell, Magic and some other past and present NBA All-Stars to a gym inside Washington’s Fort McNair to play a little hoops for like 2 hours.

Surprisingly I did not get an invite. But equally as surprising was one person who did, Maya Moore of the UConn Huskies. As far as I can tell she was not only the only college player invited, but she was also the only girl invited. Is Obama crushing on Maya Moore? His wife was out of town at the time and you know what they say about female basketball players…

UConn Victim #78: Stanford

UConn 53 – Stanford 47: This win was not pretty, matter fact it was about as ugly as Brittney Grinier, but the Huskies pulled it off to win their 2nd straight NCAA Title and become the first women’s team to have back-to-back undefeated seasons. Down 12-20 at halftime, Maya Moore sparked a 2nd half Huskies comeback scoring 11 of their first 17 points for win number 78 and the programs 7th championship.

Now they’re only 10 behind the UCLA and John Wooden record of 88 wins in a row. And believe me, not only can UConn get to 88 in a row…they can reach 100.

UConn Victim #77: Baylor & Brittney Griner

UConn 70 – Baylor 50: Hey at least Baylor kept it close. They were within 3 in the 2nd half, but in the end “Sheman” Brittney Griner wasn’t enough to stop UConn. Still your hats have to go off to Baylor because they did only lose by 20 points, the closet anybody’s come to beating the Huskies all tournament. Player of the game: Maya Moore who had 34 Pts, 12 Reb, 1 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk. Ballin’!

UConn Women: Victim No. 75 Iowa State

We should have started doing this a long time ago, counting every single one of teams the UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball team beats. Because I think it is important to understand they are not just beating teams, they are beating them to death.

Victim #75 Iowa State: UConn 74 – Iowa State 36. They won by 38 points, they’re slipping…that’s well below the average of 53, which is how much they had been beating teams by in the first two rounds. But this is the Sweet 16 so you would expect some competition. The next victim, Florida State in the Elite 8 tomorrow night.

Elena Delle Donne: College Basketball’s POY

Everyone either has Maya Moore or Tina Charles as their Women’s and Evan Turner or John Wall as their Men’s College Basketball POY. But after some discussion we’re voting for a blast from the past…Elena Delle Donne as the overall College Basketball POY.

The name should ring a bell. She’s the 6’5 girl who was the #1 player coming at of HS in 2008. The one they were calling “The Lebron James of Women’s Basketball”. And the girl who more famously quit playing right before she was about to start playing for UConn.

Well all that’s behind her now and she’s back playing ball for Delaware. And she’s not just playing, she’s ballin’! Elena is averaging 27 points (leads the NCAA), 9 rebounds, and 2 assist a game….while shooting 50% from 2, 44% from 3, and 92% from the line.

Those are the best number you’ll find in all of college basketball…women or men.

Plus she’s taken her team, which finished the season in 9th place last year all the up to a very resectable 4th place finish this season. And did I mention she’s only a freshaman. Evan TurnerMaya Moore. John Wall. Tina Charles. They got nothing on her.
