Fresno State + Nevada WAC Exit Delayed

The WAC has just managed to stay relevant until the 2012. The word is both Fresno State and Nevada have agreed to stay in the WAC until July 2012 before packing up and leaving for the Mountain West Conference. They had been trying to leave at the end of this school year, but the WAC promised to charge them a $5 million so they’ll be leaving a year later and only paying a $1 million exit fee.

Okay so just to get this right at the end of this school year this is what’s happening. Bosie State is leaving the WAC and joining the MWC, Utah is leaving the MWC and joining the Pac 12, and BYU is leaving the MWC, but going independent in football and playing in the WCC in all other sports. And then in 2012 Fresno State and Nevada will both leave the WAC and join the MWC. Phew! My head hurts.

What the conferences will look like in 2012 and 2013 below…

TCU To The Big East Rumors Heat Up

Monday we told you about the rumor that said the Big East was targeting TCU for a possible expansion, calling them “a very attractive candidate”. Then yesterday TCU’s AD came out with a statement where he plead the 5th saying, “TCU is a proud member of the Mountain West Conference”, but never confirming nor denying the rumor.

Well today we have confirmation that something is going on between the two on the low. The Dallas Morning News is reporting that within the past 30 days officials from the Big East and TCU have indeed met and discussed the Horned Frogs joining the conference in either the 2011 or 2012 season. If you ask me I think TCU is trying to run from Boise State.

The WAC Making Expansion Moves Today

The WAC is still trying to their darnedest to expand. The Idahostatesman is reporting that WAC commissioner Karl Benson and the league’s membership committee, comprised of the six athletic directors from the remaining schools, will hear formal presentations from five schools today in Dallas…with those schools being Texas State, UT-San Antonio and Montana along with non-football playing schools Seattle and Denver. If you remember the WAC is frantically trying to audition schools because it will soon be a six team conference come 2011 or 2012 when Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State all bolt for the MWC.

The Pac 12 Is Official! CU To Join In 2011

If this is not breaking news to you it should be because Colorado was not supposed to be joining the Pac until 2012. But the dude from OrangeBlood.com, the one that broke the Big 12 expansion story, is reporting that his sources are telling him that, “Unless something unforeseen happens, I think the Big 12 will be a 10-team league next season.”

So hide your wife and hide your kids because the Pac 10 will officially be becoming the Pac 12 in time for the start of next years football season with the additions of Colorado from the Big 12 and Utah from the Mountain West. I guess the Pac 10, I mean the Pac 12, better speed up those discussions they were having on how to split up the divisions.

The WAC Suing MWC + Fresno State + Nevada

Talk about being but hurt. The WAC is acting like they just got switch-hit by O’Bannion and Benny. In a press release sent out last night, the Western Athletic Conference announced that Commissioner Karl Benson would be holding a press conference at sometime this afternoon “to address the departure date of Fresno State and Nevada“.

And according to the Reno Gazette-Journal the WAC has already filed a lawsuit against Nevada, Fresno State and the Mountain West Conference accusing them of 20 different allegations. The basis of the lawsuit: the WAC claims both Nevada and Fresno State shouldn’t be allowed to leave until after the 2011-12 school year and should have to pay them $5 million a piece for leaving…Nevada and Fresno State say they’re leaving next year and don’t owe the WAC a dime. Damn, can’t we al just get along!

UCLA Blows By TCU 10-3

It really is no surprise here. TCU is just not the same team without Matt Purke pitching. Yesterday he lead them to victory, only gave up three hits and one run in six innings. Today his replacement Kyle Winkler started off the game by three runs in the first and was yanked before he even recorded an out. Then his replacement Paul Gerrish allowed two more runs in the first and another in the second before he was pulled. The game was really over at the end of the second with the score 6-1.

And as horrible as the entire TCU pitching staff was (and I do mean the entire pitching staff six pitchers played in all), UCLA’s pitching was just as good. Trevor Bauer got the win…pitching eight innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out 13. FYI: Bauer leads the nation in strikeouts with 165.

TCU’s Matt Purke Shut Down UCLA

TCU’s Matt Purke is unbeatable. Whether you like the hat crooked to the side look or not, there is no denying that the dudes got some skill…he’s a perfect 16-0 on the season, a school record. And he was lights out today in an elimination game for the Horned Frogs, allowing just allowing just three hits and one run in seven innings as TCU beat UCLA 6-2.

The two teams will meet tomorrow at 2:00pm ET on ESPN2, with the winner of that game earning a spot in the national championship series starting Monday.

TCU hit three homers on the day, but it was Taylor Featherston’s two run homer in the bottom of the seventh that really put the Bruins away. UCLA had just scored in the top of the seventh to pull within one at 3-2, before Featherston put the Horned Frog’s up 5-2 with his homer. Tyler Lockwood got the save for TCU for his eighth on the season.
