The Years First National Champion

Well the first NCAA Champion of the 2010-11 school has been crowned. Friday Maryland advanced to the final with a 3-1 victory over Ohio State, while UNC needed overtime to put away Virginia 4-3….setting up a rematch of last years national championship game between the top two teams in the nation and the winners of the last five national championships.

But where it was UNC who scored with just 11 seconds remaining in the game to defeat Maryland last year 3-2, this year it was Terrapins who got sweet revenge by beating the Tar Heels for the third time this season by the exact same score. Player of the game goes to Megan Frazer who scored with just 2:10 left in the second period of sudden-death overtime to give Maryland the 3-2 victory and the schools fourth championship in the past six seasons and seventh overall.

Chris Cameron Leads Michigan To 4th NCAA Gymnastics Championship

Last year Stanford beat Michigan to win the championship, this year Michigan returned the favor in heartbreaking fashion beating Stanford by .7 points. All thanks for Michigan’s 4th Men’s Gymnastics Championship go to Chris Cameron, who took home the individual title.

The 2009 all-around champ, Steven Legendre from Oklahoma, was a close 2nd finishing with a score of 88.95, just by 1.55 points behind Cameron.

Most Dominant Women’s Program: UConn Basketball vs Northwestern Lacrosse

The Northwestern women’s lacrosse team just got it’s 40th win in a row. A win streak that dates back to last year when they went 23-0 on their way to their 5th national title in row. And like the UConn Women’s Basketball Team it looks as though Northwestern is going to pull it off again this year and have back-to-back undefeated seasons.

But the comarasions between the two programs just don’t stop at winning national championships, both are doing it with unprecedented ease. Last years Wildcat team broke NCAA records for points in a season (570), goals scored in a season (407) and most goals in a championship game…and this years squad is on track to best those numbers.

So who’s more dominant: UConn Basketball or Northwestern Lacrosse…the Wildcat Program because its won an amazing 5 titles in a row, something the UConn Basketball program will ever do. Northwestern is so good as a program they actually might have a shot at tying the UNC Women’s Soccer record for most titles in a row with 9. Not!

And if you like bowling then you should watch because for only the second time in championship history the match between #1 seed Nebraska and Fairleigh Dickinson went to a 7th and final game.

It would be Fairleigh Dickinson that would come from behind to win the title over the defending championship Nebraska team in what should be an ESPN Instant Classic that lasted over 2.5 hours. FDU won the last two games and the 7th and decisive game by a score of 208-174 to win the programs 2nd championship, the last one coming in 2006.

PS – Danielle McEwan from Fairleigh Dickinson’s bowling team is kinda hot.

BC Skunks Wisconsin To Win National Title

Boston College easily handled Wisconsin in last nights Frozen Four final 5-0 to win the programs 4th National Championship and the teams 2nd in 3 years. All the credit should go to BC’s defense and goalie John Muse who shutdown the Hobey Baker Award for POY, Wisconsin forward Blake Geoffrion, and a Badger offense that came into the game averaging 4 goals a game, which was tops in the nation. Game deails here.

FUN FACT: A world indoor attendance record was set for hockey with a crowd of 37,592
