Notre Dam Player Stomps Guy From Navy

This week college football players are getting suspended left and right for vicious hits and punches, but here goes a video of probably the direst play from this past weekend…a play that Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has said doesn’t need to be dealt with.

So please direct your attention to the video and witness as Notre Dame linebacker Kerry Neal punches Navy freshman Shawn Reed and then proceed to stomp on his stomach. Is this worst than the eye gouge UF’s Brandon Spike did on UGA’s Waushaun Ealey last year which he recieved a one game susensions for…I think so! H/T SBB

Greg “TeaBag” Paulus BBall Dreams Live On

From Duke basketball player for four years to Syracuse starting QB for one, Greg Paulus is a college sports journeyman. And now after unsurprisingly failing to make an NFL team, he is going back to the college ranks once again…this time as a coach. FoxSports is reporting that Paulus has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at the Naval Academy. I wonder if any of the players will have the balls to call him Coach TeaBag?

College Basketball Sidenotes: Villanova PG Scottie Reynolds signed a one year contract to play in Italy after being the first All-American to go undrafted and HS senior Jeremy Tyler will play in Japan this season after quitting his Israeli team last season.

The Navy Football Team Visits Obama

Here’s video of Obama giving the Navy football team the Commander-in-Chiefs Trophy…the award given to the winner of the football series between the US service academies.

The Fight For An Automatic Bid

On May 9th the NCAA will announce the teams that will be participating in the 2010 Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. But for those teams that don’t want to sweat it out on Selection Sunday, there are 6 automatic bids going to various conference champions up for grabs.

Or I should say 4 because yesterday Denver and Army both cashed in their dancing tickets with wins. Denver with a 12-4 upset over Loyola (Maryland) got an autobid for being the ECAC champ and Army beat Navy 11-8 to win the Patriot League tournament crown.

Conferences yet to receive their AQ’s include: the America East and CAA who will crown a champion on May 8 and the MAAC and Ivy League who’s tournament ends on May 9.

Day of Rivals Lacrosse Recap

Over 20,000 people showed up to the Day of Rivals college lacrosse games yesterday to see the 88th game in the Army vs Navy rivalry and 109th game between Maryland and John Hopkins…and none would leave disappointed. Both games came down to the final seconds and were each decided by one point amidst a controversial call.

Army vs Navy – Army got the 7-6 victory over Navy, but not without a little help from the refs. With 37 seconds to go in the game Navy’s Nikk Davis appeared to score the game tying goal, but after a review 2 out of 3 refs ruled that Davis had been in the crease before the ball went into the net and took away the goal. That’s the worst way to lose a game to your rival, on a bad call. After the game the selector of referees for the NCAA tournament, who initially said it was the correct call, said the goal probably should have counted.
