Jeff Demps The Fastest In The NCAA…Again

Different year same story. On Saturday both Oregon’s women’s team and Florida men’s team won their second consecutive NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. And while a lot of stuff happened during the meet, the biggest story was Florida football player Jeff Demps winning his second 60 meter dash championship in a record 6.53 seconds.

And I’m just like…if Demps is running the 60 meter in 6.5 seconds, just how fast can he run the 40 yard dash in? Whatever it is I’m betting it’ll be faster than the 4.24 the Titans Chris Johnson ran at the combine back in ’08. And luckily for us since Demps is a senior to be we’ll get to find if he can break Johnson’s record at next years combine. But back to this years championships….we’ve got releases from both schools below.

UCLA Smashes Arizona For 11th NCAA Softball National Championship

Last night was the game, tonight was the coronation. UCLA kicked Arizona’s f-cking ass like I’ve never seen the Wildcats get their ass kicked. The Bruins were so kickass that they set five Women’s College World Series records on them in this game alone.

Hit the first grandslam in WCWS history. They got 19 hits, the all-time record for a championship game . Scored 15 runs in today’s game, the most all-time. Set the WCWS homerun record with 14 and the RBI record with 15…and they did it in just five games. Not to mention UCLA broke the single season homerun record with like 110 (don’t quote me).

We just might have witnessed the greatest Bruin team of all-time and while that may be debatable, the fact that they will go down as the best hitting Bruin team ever is not. And that’s really saying something when you consider this is the Bruins 11th softball championship and 106th for the school…both of them first all-time.

Augusta State Wins Men’s Golf Championship

Just a day after upsetting number two seed Florida State and making their coach cry tears of joy, the Augusta State men’s golf team upset number one seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys in a playoff to take home the schools first DI national title ever!

FUN FACT: Augusta State isn’t really even a division one school, the only DI sport that they offer is men’s golf…all the other sports are DII. More championship info at GolfWeek.

Duke Wins First Lacrosse Title

It seems like just yesterday the Duke Lacrosse team was in the headlines for rape and now they’re winning national championships. In what was the lowest scoring Men’s Lacrosse NCAA Championship game of all time, Duke beat Notre Dame 6-5 just five seconds into OT to take home the schools first lacrosse championship.

To the lacrosse fan this might have been a good game, there was five ties and neither team led by more that one goal…but to me it sucked. Only eleven goals! I’ve seen more action in a women’s soccer game and that damn sure ain’t saying much. And then for the game to go from the lowest scoring of all time to the having the fastest goal to start an overtime in NCAA championship game history in seconds is just straight out weird.

I don’t know which feat this game will be remembered for, all I know is I will forever remember Duke’s Lacrosse team for rape no matter what they do on the field…kinda like how I only remember OJ for murder. Complete recap of the game here.

Women’s Lacrosse Final Set: Maryland vs Northwestern

Our women’s lacrosse final is all set up, it will be the top two teams in the nation all year…one seed Maryland vs two seed Northwestern. Northwestern is going for their 6th straight championship after UNC last night, defeating them 15-10.

In the rematch of last seasons championship game the win over the TarHeels avenged the Wildcats only loss of this season, an 18-16 defeat which ended their 41 game winning streak and was their first home loss in 59 games. Now they will take on a Maryland team who just like them split a pair of games with UNC this season.

Maryland is in the championship game after blowing out Syracuse 14-5 in their semifinal matchup. Led by super sophomore Karri Ellen Johnson who had two goals and three assists and Tewaaraton Award finalist Caitlyn McFadden with 4 goals. The championship game will be played tomorrow at 5:00 pm ET on CBS College Sports.

Stanford And Florida Take Home Tennis Titles

Well I was mistaken twice. I thought the Florida Gators girls would have a cake walk in the final against Stanford and they end up losing 4-3. I think I was thinking with the wrong head and letting the beauty of their team cloud my better judgement.

In my defense though it was close…in the end it was Mallory Burdette’s 6-4, 6-7 (4) 7-5 victory over Florida’s Marrit Boonstra in the last match of the day that would clinch the title for the Cardinals. This is Stanford’s 16th NCAA championship.

But like I said I was mistaken twice. Below is the men’s championship recap.
