Evan Turner Is The Consensus College POY But John Wall Is Still #1

Evan Turner picked up another Player of the Year Award last night, winning the John Wooden Award  over John Wall by a slim margin. Still even though Evan has swept the college basketball POY Awards winning the Associated Press, Naismith and John Wooden Awards John Wall is still a lock to be the #1 pick in the draft.

As one NBA Executive put it: “Nobody in their right mind is taking anybody but John Wall with the No. 1 pick [in the NBA Draft]. I don’t care if you have Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Look at it this way, if Wall were a free agent this summer, he’d be behind only LeBron and Wade in the pecking order. If Evan Turner were a free agent, he’d be behind Joe Johnson, too. DeMarcus Cousins? He’d be behind all of the above, plus Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Yao Ming and Carlos Boozer.”

Elena Delle Donne: College Basketball’s POY

Everyone either has Maya Moore or Tina Charles as their Women’s and Evan Turner or John Wall as their Men’s College Basketball POY. But after some discussion we’re voting for a blast from the past…Elena Delle Donne as the overall College Basketball POY.

The name should ring a bell. She’s the 6’5 girl who was the #1 player coming at of HS in 2008. The one they were calling “The Lebron James of Women’s Basketball”. And the girl who more famously quit playing right before she was about to start playing for UConn.

Well all that’s behind her now and she’s back playing ball for Delaware. And she’s not just playing, she’s ballin’! Elena is averaging 27 points (leads the NCAA), 9 rebounds, and 2 assist a game….while shooting 50% from 2, 44% from 3, and 92% from the line.

Those are the best number you’ll find in all of college basketball…women or men.

Plus she’s taken her team, which finished the season in 9th place last year all the up to a very resectable 4th place finish this season. And did I mention she’s only a freshaman. Evan TurnerMaya Moore. John Wall. Tina Charles. They got nothing on her.
