Looks like Nebraska’s Bubba Starling wasn’t the only recruit who ditched college and signed with an MLB team right before last nights 12am deadline for teams to sign their 2011 draft picks. Also making moves in the 23rd hour was Trevor Gretzky, the son of NHL great Wayne Gretzky, who had committed to attend San Diego State this Fall… but instead signed with the Cubs, who drafted him the the 7th round of the draft. Who needs stinking school when you’re ‘The Great Ones’ son. [via]

If some shit like this would have happened in the SEC or the Big 12 fan would have been organizing pretest, marches, sit-ins…hell they might have even rioted. Three replay booth officials that were working during the BYU vs SDSU game have been suspended for just one game for blowing this call (@ the 1:42 mark in the video) during the game.

It’s obviously a fumble by BYU, yet the Three Stooges in the replay booth failed to overturn the call on the field…I wonder why? Maybe because one of the replay “officials” was the BYU video coordinator! A paid employee of the schools athletic department.

We haven’t gotten that many comments from other players and coaches on the USC sanctions and violations, except from those involved. It’s like the NCAA is the Candyman or something, nobody wants to say their name too much. Well at last we have someone with the balls enough to say what everyone is thinking and surprisingly it’s Future Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. Here is the line of questioning via Seattle PI:

“Were you ever offered anything in college?” I asked.
“Nah, I went to San Diego State,” Faulk said. “Other than good weather, they didn’t have much to offer me, unfortunately. I wish I’d gone to a bigger program and had them slide me some cash to take care of my family, but that wasn’t the case.”

“Would you have taken it? I asked.
“I would have taken it,” Faulk said. “I’m not gonna lie to you, there’s no doubt about it.”

I don’t know any college student in their right mind that wouldn’t take free money especially tax free cash. Has anyone forgot how broke we are…shit is hard out here son.

UPDATE: Trevor just committed to play baseball (not football) at San Diego State. Which is a great choice based on this formula…party school + plenty of hot girls + close to the beach = SDSU.

Since we did a story talking about how much Chris Carter’s kid sucked, I figured we might as well talk some shit about Wayne Gretzky’s kid Trevor too. And I know what you’re thinking, he for sure must plays hockey. But he doesn’t. He actually plays the sport and position that gets you the most girls, football QB.

He’s about to be a senior next year at Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian High School, where he’ll get to start for the first time. And wouldn’t you know, last year he was the backup to another greats kid…Nick Montana, who’ll be playing sitting the bench at Washington next year. I’ll have to keep my eye on Trevor because id you let the scouts tell it he isn’t half bad. He’s even got schools like UCLA, Alabama, FSU, Miami, and a handful of others showing interest.
