Hottest College Players On The USA Softball Team

About the only sporting event on TV this weekend is the World Cup of Softball VI… with the USA taking on the world. And this year unlike in past years the US squad is full of girls that are still in college… 10 out of the 19 players in fact.

And here are the cutest college players on the US Softball team from left to right in the pictures above: Jessica Shults (Oklahoma), Brittany Schutte (Florida), Lauren Gibson (Tennessee), and Valerie Arioto (Cal Berkley).

Rule Changes Coming To NCAA Softball

Baseball endured them past year and come next Spring softball also might be undergoing a slight rule change. The NCAA is considering a change to its softball rules that would allow a defensive team to choose a penalty if a runner leaves base before the pitcher releases the ball. The new rule will be put to a vote on July 13th. [via]

We’re just about half way through this years softball season and the SEC is still dominating the top of the poll. First it was UGA who was ranked #1 for four consecutive weeks to start the season, and now is Alabama who this week is entering it’s third week ranked at the top of the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll. You can checkout the complete top 25 here.

Now lets have a look at this weeks Hot 5 of the Top 25…where we show you the hottest girl on each of the teams ranked in top five. This is from left to right now: representing #1 Alabama is Ryan Iamurri. #2 GeorgiaJennie Auger#3 Arizona StateDani Rae Lougheed#4 MichiganKatie Luetkens. And #5 TexasBlaire Luna.

Softball Cliff Notes

For the second week in a row, Alabama is the ranked the #1 softball team in America. The Crimson Tide (33-2) got off to a bumpy start last week by splitting a mid-week SEC doubleheader at #11 Tennessee. However, they were able to bounce back later in the week by sweeping a three-game set with Arkansas to finish the five-game stretch at 4-1.

As a result, the Crimson Tide garnered 23 of the 30 first-place votes in the new poll, while Georgia (27-4) moved from third to second after handing Florida (30-4) their first three home losses of the season. Meanwhile, Michigan (31-2) and Arizona State (33-2) both moved up one spot to the number three and four spots in the rankings respectively…while the Gators fell three spots from second to fifth to round out the top 5.

Stud Muffins: Softball Week 2

We have a new number one folks. With losses by last weeks number one and two ranked teams UCLA and Arizona, the University of Georgia moves into the top spot for the first time in school history in this weeks rankings. This weeks complete top 25 rankings here.

The Bulldogs are off to perfect 10-0 start and are averaging almost 9 runs a game, but UGA might not even be the hottest team in their own conference. I would give that award to 5th ranked Alabama (10-0) who has been on fire, scoring a total of 61 runs in their last five home games. Another team to look out for is 24th ranked 9-1 Houston…they’ve already got wins over 3 ranked opponents and ranked for the first time in two years.

Stud Muffin Fun Fact

Only 11 games into her college softball career and Nebraska freshman Taylor Edwards already has an NCAA record. With a solo HR in the seventh inning of the Huskers game against Tennessee Tech on Sunday, Taylor broke the record for most consecutive games with homerun with her sixth. Fun Fact: the MLB record for most consecutive game with a homerun is eight held by Dale Long, Don Mattingly, and Ken Griffey.
