NCAA Changing The Rules In Swimming And Track

We’ve got some NCAA rules changes for all you lame sports lovers out there. In swimming there is now a no-recall false start, which means unless there is a blatant false start, the event would continue and the swimmer charged with the false start would be disqualified at the end of the race.

And then the NCAA is also going to start requiring pole vaulters to wear specially-designed helmets starting next year… so nobody misses the mat on the landing and dies like that dude did last year. [via]

The Hottest Swimmers in the SEC

These pics give new meaning to the saying, “hate to see you go, but love to see you walk away.” If there’s one thing you should remember about swimmer chicks it’s that:

While they might not be the chestiest girls (I think it comes from years of having that tight one piece pressing down on their boobs), you can always count on them to have great legs and in some cases a nice Jessica Biel heart shaped booty.

Clemson Axes Two Sports

RIP to both men’s and women’s swimming programs at Clemson. The school announced yesterday that the programs will be phased out over two years and be just a memory by the spring of 2012. The school decided that the sport had to go after the decision was made not to waste their money building an olympic sized pool on campus.

The good: they’re keeping womens diving and all the swimmers can keep their scholarships if they decide to stay. The bad: now they might add women’s golf as a sport.

Hot off the presses here goes our newest athlete couple from Vanderbilt, basketball player Jeffery Taylor and swimmer Nicole Woodworth. Both sophomores at Vandy, our source says they have been dating for a about a year now and are in love.

Horns Up: Texas Wins Men’s Swim Championship

We forgot to mention that Men’s Swimming was having their championship this weekend, but here is our recap: Texas won the championship with 500 points, Cal finished 2nd with 469.5 points, and Arizona 3rd with 387 points. This is Texas’s 10th men’s swimming title, they’re first since winning 3 straight from ’00-02. More info here.

A good finish to a championship that was delayed a day, after 18 swimmers and one coach had to go to the hospital because of a gastrointestinal illness aka the bubble guts.

The Florida Gators Are National Champs!

Horray for Florida! They won their first women’s swimming and diving championship since 1982 today in dramatic fashion. They started the 3rd and final day in 5th place and ended up winning the whole thing by 2.5 points over Stanford, 382 to 379.5…the 2nd closest finish in the history of the competition (the 1st: 2001 UGA beat Stanford by 1.5 points).
