Yeardley Love. You remember that name? On March 3rd it will have been one year to the day since Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love was brutally murdered in her own apartment by her ex-boyfriend George Huguely, who was also a UVa lacrosse player.

Remember now? Well after months and months of Huguely’s lawyers pushing the trial back, I am happy to tell you that proceedings have finally gotten underway. Yesterday after nine hours of testimony, a judge decided there was enough probable cause for the case to move forward…now it’s in the juries hands on whether to indite Huguely on all six charges filed against him, which they are set to do by April 18th.

After they decide that, then the actual trial can begin. But thanks to the pre-trial hearing we already know what the defense is going to try and argue…that Huguely had no intention of killing Love and that Love’s death was a “tragedy but not an intentional criminal act.” LOL!

A few hours before the Final Four tips off Saturday, the 2011-12 college football season will officially get underway with the first televised Spring Game of the year. It’s just Virginia, so I doubt many will tune in…but come Sunday they’ll be no men’s tournament games, two sub-par NBA matchups, and the women’s Final Four doesn’t come on until night.

Which means the entire sports nation will be turning their attention to Texas who’ll be holding their Spring Game live on ESPN at 3:00pm ET. I love it. Personally I don’t care if there’s an NFL lockout or not, just as long as there’s college football I’ll be happy.

Virginia’s baseball team not only have the distinction of being ranked #1 in the nation this morning, but also as having the first pitcher since 2002 to throw a perfect game.

Yesterday junior Will Roberts became just the 19th DI player to throw a perfect game and the first in UVA school history (2nd in ACC history), in a 2-0 victory over George Washington. Roberts struck out 10 and needed just 98 pitches to retire all 27 Colonial batters…he is now 5-0 on the season with an 1.13 ERA.

Arrest Report: All three players are facing the same charges after police say they entered an apartment and assaulted three male victims at around 1:30 am on January 30 and assaulted 3 people, sending two the hospital, after getting into verbal altercation with them earlier on in the night. All 3 players have already been suspended indefinitely by the team.

Yesterday the STX/NFHCA Field Hockey Preseason Poll got released and as expected last years champ, the UNC Tar Heels got the number one ranking receiving 25 out of 56 first-place votes. And just like it’s other rich white sport brethern lacrosse, field hockey is dominated by East Coast schools….the ACC inparticularly, who has all six of their teams ranked in the top 10 and own the top three with UNC, Maryland, and Virginia ranked 1-2-3.

But before I get to far I know you’re wondering why I’m on here talking about field hockey of all sports. Well it’s because field hockey players are freaking hot. Just look at the Dutch Field Hockey team. Fatima Moreira. Ellen Hoog. Kate Hollywood. Casey Eastham. The list goes on and on. So when we talk field, you’d best listen because we’re about to stop telling you how hot college field hockey girls are and start showing you.

With the Yeardley Love murder trial coming up sooner than later, new details have emerged about her violent relationship with fellow Virginia Lacrosse player and boyfriend George Huguely in the days leading up to the May 3rd murder.

A witness tells police that just three days before her murder, the two had an “altercation” where “Love hit Huguely with her purse” hard enough to dislodge all its contents. And in another plus for the prosecution police were able to recovered some emails from Love’s computer where her and Huguely were talking about their recent breakup and the fight.
