Women’s Sports Cheat Sheet

Volleyball:
Unranked Arizona State scored the major upset of the weekend with wins over two top ten teams, #5 USC on Friday and #10 UCLA on Saturday…while their rival #25 Arizona lost to both squads over the weekend.

In the Big Ten both #19 Minnesota and #20 Northwestern lost their two games over the weekend…Minnesota to #9 Penn State and Ohio State and Northwestern to #15 Michigan and Michigan State.

#12 LSU, the second best team in the SEC, got swept by an unranked Ole Miss team dropping them to 7-2 in the conference behind 8-0 #1 ranked Florida who play #24 Tennessee on Wednesday

The crop in the Pac 10 is still #2 Stanford and #6 Cal, who both are 7-1 in conference play after sweeping the two Washington schools this past weekend…setting up showdown between the two on Friday night.

#3 Nebraska is running away with the Big 12 title with their sweep of KState on Saturday, they move to 17-1 overall and 9-0 in league play ahead of #11 Texas (7-2) and #13 Iowa State (6-3) who they’ll play next week.

Cal Poly’s Hottest Volleyball Player

I’ve never really heard of the Cal Poly Mustangs. I don’t know what division they are. What league they’re in. All’s I know is that they have a girl named Colleen on their volleyball team that is Michael Jackson bad. She so fine she’d even have Ricky Martin trying to beat it. And the best part is she’s from California, which means lots of bikini pics!

Women’s Sports This Weekend

Sunday Soccer Scores:
#1 Stanford tops #14 UCLA (2-0): For the seventh game in a row Stanford’s Christen Press scored a goal, this tim on penalty kick off a hand ball in the 23rd minute of the game. And from their the Cardinal didn’t look back adding another goal in 36th minute to take a 2-0, a lead they would maintain throughout the game. With the win Stanford is now 11-0-2.

Sunday Volleyball Matches:
#15 LSU outlast #22 Tennessee (3-1): This game was back-and-forth all day and featured a total of 43 ties and 17 lead changes. And the credit for this one has to go to LSU’s defense holding the Vols to a .203 hitting percentage in the match.

Saturday Volleyball Matches:
#8 USC tops #7 Cal: USC’s handed Cal their first loss of the season with a thrilling five-set win (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 17-15) where they rallied from a 14-12 deficit in the fifth set with a 5-1 run for the victory. It was really a two women battle between USC’s Alex Jupiter who finished with 26 kills and Cal’s Tarah Murrey who led all players with 34 kills.

#12 UCLA stuns #1 Stanford: Behind a career-high 25 kills from sophomore Rachael Kidderand 25 digs by junior Lainey Gera, the Bruins ended Stanford’s undefeated run with a five-set victory (25-21, 16-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12). And with both Bay Area schools losing this weekend it now means there are no more undefeated teams in college volleyball and we’ll have a new #1 ranked team in the nation come Tuesday (probably Florida).

#6 Illinois #18 Michigan: I didn’t even know you could get a triple double in volleyball, but apparently UM’s senior setter Lexi Zimmerman did that in Michigan’s four set upset (28-26, 25-19, 19-25, 26-24) over the Fighting Illini with 43 assists, 13 digs and 13 kills. Now that is what I call balling. Both UM and Illinois are now in a first place tie atop the Big Ten at 5-1.

Dream Photo Shoot: Morgan Beck + Jessica Gysin

I don’t go on Twitter often, but when I do I always go to ex-USC Volleyball player Jessica Gysin’s page because she always post hot TwitPics of herself. But even I wasn’t prepared for what I saw this time. And it make me want to say Oh, oh, oh, oh. Ohh my gosh!

Jessica Gysin, one of the hottest college volleyball players of all-time side by side with ex-Cal volleyball player Morgan Beck, another one of the hottest college volleyball players of all-time…doing some mysteriously sexy all black everything photo shoot.

I’m telling you if you’re on Twitter and not following Gysin, you’re tripping and you’ll realize that after you peep the hot ass Twitpics she posted earlier this week below.

Stanford Perfect In New Volleyball Rankings

There isn’t too much movement in this weeks polls this week. The top four remains the same with Stanford, Florida, Nebraska, and Penn State all coming out the weekend perfect. One of the few teams that did lose was USC, but they only fell three spots to 8th because their loss came to top ten team Washington…who moved up to one to 9th after defeating both USC and #12 UCLA over the weekend.

Hawaii and Illinois then both moved up a spot with the ‘SC loss. While Cal, one of only two teams still undefeated in the nation, is only ranked 7th behind three teams with one loss and two with three….what gives? But no worries Cal will have their chance to climb the rankings this week when them and Stanford square off against two top 15 teams in USC and UCLA. The complete top 25 here.

Women’s Sports Weekend Report

No this isn’t a college athlete this is Diana Taurasi of the WNBA from the ESPN Magazine body issue coming out on Friday, but there are supposed to be two dozen college athletes from Stanford in this years issue though…(more info here).

SUNDAY SOCCER SCORES:
#1 Stanford ices #13 Santa Clara (2-0):
Stanford will be #1 again in this weeks polls after out shooting Santa Clara 26-1 and blanking the Broncos to move to 9-0-2 on the season. Lindsay Taylor scored and stud muffin Christen Press scored within 1 minute, 39 seconds of each other in the second half to lead the Cardinal to the win. This gave Press 14 goals on the season and moved her into a tie for #1 on Stanford’s all-time list with 59.

#2 Boston College falls to #8 Virginia (3-2): Boston College is undefeated no more. A week after knocking off UNC, the Eagles themselves fall to an ACC opponent. But the win by Virginia shouldn’t surprise you, UVA is the only team that is ranked in the top five in the nation in goals per game and fewest goals allowed per game. And by the way the race for the ACC Championship just got real, four teams are tied for first with a 2-1 record.

SATURDAY VOLLEYBALL SCORES:
#1 Stanford sweeps #11 Oregon (3-0): On Friday it was Cal sweeping the Ducks and now it’s Stanford and they did it in just as impressive fashion (25-10, 25-16, 25-21). Now not only are Cal and Stanford the only two undefeated teams left in the nation, but they’re in a tie for first in the Pac 10. Up next, games on the road against #5 USC and #12 UCLA.

#3 Nebraska rolls #13 Texas (3-1): The Cornhuskers came into this game with a four game losing streak to the Longhorns and came our with a four set win (25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20). Nebraska is now 14-1 overall and remain the Big 12′s only undefeated team in conference play at 6-0, while the Longhorns are a lowly 3-2.

#19 Michigan bows down to #4 Penn State (3-0): After having their 109 game win streak and their Big Ten 65 game win streak snapped earlier on this season, the Nittany Lions still have one rather impressive win streak left…their home win streak of 82 matches which they continued with a win over Michigan in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-20).
