No this isn’t a college athlete this is Diana Taurasi of the WNBA from the ESPN Magazine body issue coming out on Friday, but there are supposed to be two dozen college athletes from Stanford in this years issue though…(more info here).
SUNDAY SOCCER SCORES:
#1 Stanford ices #13 Santa Clara (2-0): Stanford will be #1 again in this weeks polls after out shooting Santa Clara 26-1 and blanking the Broncos to move to 9-0-2 on the season. Lindsay Taylor scored and stud muffin Christen Press scored within 1 minute, 39 seconds of each other in the second half to lead the Cardinal to the win. This gave Press 14 goals on the season and moved her into a tie for #1 on Stanford’s all-time list with 59.
#2 Boston College falls to #8 Virginia (3-2): Boston College is undefeated no more. A week after knocking off UNC, the Eagles themselves fall to an ACC opponent. But the win by Virginia shouldn’t surprise you, UVA is the only team that is ranked in the top five in the nation in goals per game and fewest goals allowed per game. And by the way the race for the ACC Championship just got real, four teams are tied for first with a 2-1 record.
SATURDAY VOLLEYBALL SCORES:
#1 Stanford sweeps #11 Oregon (3-0): On Friday it was Cal sweeping the Ducks and now it’s Stanford and they did it in just as impressive fashion (25-10, 25-16, 25-21). Now not only are Cal and Stanford the only two undefeated teams left in the nation, but they’re in a tie for first in the Pac 10. Up next, games on the road against #5 USC and #12 UCLA.
#3 Nebraska rolls #13 Texas (3-1): The Cornhuskers came into this game with a four game losing streak to the Longhorns and came our with a four set win (25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20). Nebraska is now 14-1 overall and remain the Big 12′s only undefeated team in conference play at 6-0, while the Longhorns are a lowly 3-2.
#19 Michigan bows down to #4 Penn State (3-0): After having their 109 game win streak and their Big Ten 65 game win streak snapped earlier on this season, the Nittany Lions still have one rather impressive win streak left…their home win streak of 82 matches which they continued with a win over Michigan in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-20).
