Here goes a new post that we’ll be doing every once in awhile highlighting a female athlete that was kicking ass recently. And our first Stud Muffin Award goes to Florida volleyball senior outside hitter Callie Rivers, who is a big reason why the Gators were able to go from ranked 13th to the six spot this week. She has 10 kills and nine digs versus the win over #2 Nebraska and 12 kills, three aces and seven digs against #9 Iowa last weekend.

Plus she is Doc Rivers’ daughter and was dating Brandon Spikes before the whole chatroulette sex tape thing hit the Internet. And no that was not her in the tape, but that is her with the mean cheek game in the picture above (she’s number five).

Like we said, we’ll be doing at least one women’s sports post a day this school year…and up for you today we have the first women’s volleyball rankings of the year. Now I don’t know how long Penn State has been atop the rankings, but they are #1 again this week and have to be closing in on some kind of DI record or something with 105 straight wins.

We do have a new number two in the nation, with Texas taking Nebraska’s spot after they lost at home to a Florida team that beat two top 10 teams this weekend. And rightful so Florida made the biggest jump in this weeks poll moving up seven spots to sixth in the nation. The biggest drop in the polls…Michigan, who fell seven spots from 12th to 19th after they losing to unranked Toledo. The complete Top 25 here.

Penn State moved to 3-0 and took home the Carolina Classic Championship by defeating Campbell, Villanova, and North Carolina all in straight sets to take their winning streak to 105 matches. And in case you were wondering…that is the second longest win streak in DI team sports history behind the 137 straight victories by the Miami men’s tennis program from 1957-1964. The Nittany Lions haven’t lost since September 2007!

The biggest upset of the weekend, was #2 ranked Nebraska (1-1) losing to #13 Florida (2-0) in five sets at home yesterday (Florida also beat #9 Iowa State in the tournament). But that wasn’t the only upset of the weekend, #12 Michigan also fell to unranked Toledo in the final of the Rocket Classic in hard fought five game match. Other teams in the top 25 that lost to unrankeds: Arizona and Saint Mary’s. New rankings should come out tomorrow.

I come to you today with some sad new regarding Morgan Beck aka the hottest college volleyball player of all time. At 23 years young she has fallen victim to marriage. Womp. Womp. Womp. The lucky guy, some ex-Penn State volleyball player dude.

But so we aren’t Debbie Downer over here, we do have some of her new modeling picture for your viewing pleasure…so here’s to us seeing her in Maxim or something soon.

Mallory Husz is what you call a 5★star athlete. She’s the total package. She was a three time player of the year in basketball back in HS. Got a scholarship to play volley at Iowa. Now she’s a junior and the teams starting middle blocker. And the cherry on top…she’s a legit 10 in the looks department and from what I hear single. We’ll have more on her later.

According to the 2010 Sports Participation in America survey, the number of people ages six and over who participated in sand volleyball increased by 7.3 percent between 2008 and 2009. The 7.3 percent increase represented over 300,000 new participants.

Making sand volleyball and softball the only team sports to gain over 300,000 participants. In fact, of the 23 team sports tracked by the SGMA, 16, including the largest sports baseball, basketball, football and soccer, all showed declines in participation.

Alright this is the last college athlete that we’re going to post from the class of 2010 and she just might be our hottest. Might. You’ll have to wait until Monday when we’ll be posting our official Top 10 Hottest College Athletes from the Class of 2010 List to see who #1 is.
