I don’t know how this one slipped past our radar! This past weekend in Santa Monica, CA Beach volleyball teams from USC, Pepperdine, Pacific, and Fresno State competed in the 2nd Annual USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge. Yes, we’re talking NCAA women’s college beach volleyball…spandex, bikini’s, and college girls! Oh My!
Even though “Sand Volleyball” isn’t scheduled to become an official NCAA sport until 2011-12, many schools are creating beach tournaments and fielding teams.
Over the weekend 24 collegiate women’s beach volleyball teams competed in 3 divisions at the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge at Will Rogers Beach and for the 2nd year in a row USC won the team competition, this time tying with Pepperdine. While USC’s Geena Urango and Alex Jupiter won the individual championship, defeating Pepperdine’s Kiah Fiers and Caitlin Racich in the final (16-21, 21-16, 15-7).
