Yeardley Love Trial Finally Starting

Yeardley Love. You remember that name? On March 3rd it will have been one year to the day since Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love was brutally murdered in her own apartment by her ex-boyfriend George Huguely, who was also a UVa lacrosse player.

Remember now? Well after months and months of Huguely’s lawyers pushing the trial back, I am happy to tell you that proceedings have finally gotten underway. Yesterday after nine hours of testimony, a judge decided there was enough probable cause for the case to move forward…now it’s in the juries hands on whether to indite Huguely on all six charges filed against him, which they are set to do by April 18th.

After they decide that, then the actual trial can begin. But thanks to the pre-trial hearing we already know what the defense is going to try and argue…that Huguely had no intention of killing Love and that Love’s death was a “tragedy but not an intentional criminal act.” LOL!

New Details Emerge In Yeardley Love Murder

With the Yeardley Love murder trial coming up sooner than later, new details have emerged about her violent relationship with fellow Virginia Lacrosse player and boyfriend George Huguely in the days leading up to the May 3rd murder.

A witness tells police that just three days before her murder, the two had an “altercation” where “Love hit Huguely with her purse” hard enough to dislodge all its contents. And in another plus for the prosecution police were able to recovered some emails from Love’s computer where her and Huguely were talking about their recent breakup and the fight.

More new evidence and a trial preview below…

Yeardley Love Murder Changes School Policy

The last time we reported on the George Huguely/Yeardley Love Virginia Lacrosse murder we told you that the school was thinking about changing rules to prevent this from ever happening again…well today the school announced that they’re planning on moving ahead with the changes. Starting on August 21st, when students return to campus, they will have a new question to answer at registration time: Have you ever been arrested?

Students have always had to report arrest or convictions to the school, but the the school has never enforced the rule. So now students will have to state whether they have been arrested the first time they log onto the UVA computer system. And students who lie about an arrest on the form will be violating UVA’s strict honor code and subject to dismissal.

New Graphic Details In The Yeardley Love Murder

Weird. It’s been over 3 moths since Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love was murdered by her boyfriend George Huguely and we are just now getting the details on her death:

Huguely told police that he shook Love, struck her head repeatedly against a wall, pushed her on her bed and left her lying there with blood coming out of her nose…Love died of blunt force trauma and her death classified as a homicide…she was found face down in a pool of blood on her pillow with a large bruise on the right side of her face, bruises and scrapes to her chin, and her right eye swollen shut.

Damn, now that’s just cold blooded. He basically beat her to death. Luckily for all of our safety Huguely is being held without bail on charges of first-degree murder. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 7th, where he’ll finally enter his plea and with evidence like this it’ll be hard to think it’ll be anything other than a guilty.

The Virginia Lacrosse Murder Changing Laws

In the wake of Yeardley Love murder everybody involved from the school to the police are wondering what they could have done to prevent it. The problem was that nobody knew the whole story, no one could see how volatile George Huguely was until it was too late.

Friends knew he was stalkerish. Teammates knew he was violent. Police knew he had a drinking problem. And had the school known all of this, maybe Love would still be alive.

Well now someone is doing something to make sure this breakdown in communication between institutions doesn’t happen again. Outlined in a proposal by the president of UVA was a plan to make it mandatory for police agencies in the state to report arrests of college students to their schools. Me I’d be all for something like that.
